Why Metropolis

We see a unique opportunity to speak to young audiences with Metropolis, which explores very timely themes around rich and poor, what divides us, and what it really means to be human in a technological age. Never before has this cautionary tale been as exciting or relevant to envision as it is today, given the politics of our world, the dawn of AI, and the coming age of the Metaverse.

The anime film had limited time to explore the story world of Tezuka’s beautiful and tragic, richly imagined city. An animated series will give us more time to flesh out the many layers of Metropolis as a place, and to delve more deeply into the story’s amazing ensemble of characters. The city is a wonderland, full of mystery and surprises; our series format will be the ideal way to make the most of it narratively, and to funnel audiences toward a companion virtual world experience. This is a place ready to be engaged in many wondrous and connected forms.
